A tribute

My beliefs are influenced by their convictions.

My strength stems from their tribulations.

My temperament is the consequence of their exuberance.

Their past has given me my present, and I could not ask for more.

The land I hail from is..

Where passion defies gravity.

Where dusk calls for home.

Where shadow gleams.

Where the usuals become striking.

Where emerging monsters provide serenity.

Where the present mixes with the past.

The land I hail from is where I met life and the values it conveys.

Please note that these pictures were taken in Merbok, Kedah (Malaysia) and they have not been edited.

Unfortunate orphans

She is one of the many Malaysian orphans who I think is wretched not only in terms of  welfare but also education.

Her parents have not passed away but she including her older brother have been sent away because they could not be fed and taken care of due to poverty.

No money and new clothes could replace the value of education that these children are not in the know about. The kids from her home lack the understanding of how important knowledge is and the sight is just so disappointing.

Often, the easiest thing to gain is the hardest thing to get. I wish the education system in Malaysia isn’t that rigid. It could open so many escaping doors to places where these youngsters aspire to flee.

This is Wada. She’s only seven turning eight and she wants to flee.

If you wish to help them in any way you can think of, you can join a Facebook group-Let’s Put A Smile on Their Faces. This is, of course one of the many groups on Facebook to help these children. The administrators are sisters who have organized many drives to raise funds that are channelled to different homes in Malaysia, usually around Klang Valley.

Wada is from Rumah Amal Anak Yatim (Amal Orphanage) in Sungai Manggis, Banting and shares the small home with 30 other kids between the age of 3 and 17. Help can be in the form of tutoring, donation, mentoring and such. Anything that suits you best.

You can also help me support the Ugandan children through the SocialVibe application below. No money required. Thanks so much :)

His dream job

Thunderstorm in Melbourne happens as often as getting stuck in a traffic jam in the desert. There was no lightning or such to signal the beginning of a very wet and chilly afternoon and people started to run like bats out of hell and there he was, Mister Piano-man putting on his $1.50 poncho (I know it’s $1.50 because I have one too), all composed, as if he already knew it was going to rain heavily there and then. While everyone was dashing into nearby shops to stay dry, he calmly took his seat and continued playing the piano as if it was an okay thing to do.

Just like everyone else, he left me stupefied. Even those across the street had their heads turned. Who wouldn’t? The piano’s shabby and no offense to the man in the picture, he’s too. Everyone’s mood was lifted and instead of being the usual free-loaders, they returned his music by making ‘kaching!’ sounds with the yellow bucket.

Before I left, I walked up to him and told him how happy he made me feel and despite the wet weather, he gave me the same sort of smile when it was warm and sunny and I’m pretty sure I saw gratification in his eyes.

A foggy mind

Sometimes a foggy mind snaps a foggy picture.

….well at least my foggy mind, that is.
